Our Mission

"Leftover Love turns waste into nourishment. With food banks and stores discarding healthy food while pet owners struggle, we rescue surplus and transform it into vet-approved, human-grade meals. Healthier pets, a cleaner planet—one rescued meal at a time."

At Leftover Love, we believe that no pet should go hungry and no nutritious food should go to waste. Our mission is to bridge the gap between food waste and pet hunger by rescuing surplus food and transforming it into healthy, vet-approved meals for pets in need.

We work with grocery stores, restaurants, and food banks to collect food that would otherwise be discarded, despite being perfectly safe and nutritious. Our team of dedicated volunteers and staff then prepare these ingredients into balanced meals that meet the nutritional needs of dogs and cats.

By providing these meals to struggling pet owners, we help keep families together during financial hardships and reduce the number of pets surrendered to shelters due to food insecurity.

Our History

Leftover Love history

In 2025, Katie Spencer faced a harsh reality—feeding her four beloved Chow Chows was becoming an overwhelming financial burden. Despite making just enough to be ineligible for assistance, she barely had enough to feed herself, let alone her fur family. While searching for solutions, she discovered a troubling truth: millions of pets are surrendered every year due to food insecurity and the financial strain of pet ownership, all while food banks, restaurants, and grocery stores discarded perfectly good, healthy food.

Determined to bridge this gap, Katie—an animal lover and fierce advocate for community support—took action. What started as a small volunteer effort and a partnership with Feeding Pets of the Homeless quickly became a movement. With the support of one local grocery store, Leftover Love began rescuing surplus food and transforming it into vet-approved, human-grade meals for pets in need. As word spread, more stores, restaurants, and food banks joined the mission.

Today, Leftover Love is making a meaningful impact across Phoenix, helping thousands of families keep their beloved pets while preventing tons of food from ending up in landfills. With plans to expand, we're turning hunger into hope—one rescued meal at a time. 🐾💛
